Will 235/45/17 fit on an ar? What are the trade offs?
Plus Zero size (i.e., statistically ideal [close enough for jazz] to maintain the "accuracy" of anything related to the turning of the wheels (e.g., speedometer, odometer, the computer, etc.)) 245 x 50 x 17".
Why would you NOT simply plus zero, remain the same or plus 1 (which I realize costs a whole bunch more since new wheels are required)?
Someone who knows more about this stuff than I, should comment on the "trade offs" that going to a tire that is this far outside of the oem tire's circumference could cause.
advantages?!? Perhaps stiffer handling, better acceleration due to reduced gearing.
Bottom line is that it is not the right tire.
-Your speedo will be off my 4 mph at 70.
-When you have driven 50,000 miles shown on your odometer, you will have actually only covered 47,350. In other words, you will end your 4/50 warranty prematurely by 2,650 miles. And if your car is leased, say for 4 years/ 48000 miles, you will be off by 2544 miles too many incurring a charge (.25/mile iirc) thus owing $636 you shouldn't have to pay.
I wouldn't use the tires for very long... too many down sides.
