What do our cars do when cruise control is on and you hydroplane...
...not much rain in NM, but when it does it comes down quick. With weeks of oil and muck deposits, things get slick. Assuming ESP is on, what happens when traction is lost while hydroplaning with cruise control on?
(My assumption, should be obvious, engine stops torque transfer until traction is re-gained... but a dealer just told me the car accelerates and that cruise control in the rain is dangerous. Sounded crazy.)

Yep I agree, just wondering what would happen...
...does the dealer's explanation make sense? Car would accelerate rather than cut engine power until traction is regained?
There may be cases where this is really a potential issue -- unexpected patch of ice or unexpected puddles.

Same here; ESP has intervened on a few occasions
I can speak for at least my cars, both of which have ESP. In both cars the cruise control will shut off if it encounters hydroplanning. Not sure if it is ESP intervening each time, but I have seen the light come on a few times while shutting down cruise control.
