I have heard that factory glass is of a higher quality that aftermarket, however I don't know what that relates to. A rock is a rock and a balistic one at any speed which causes glass to fracture. I get a windscreen once a year as they use gravel (read: pea gravel, cinders, and 3/8"-1/2" rocks here for traction). Add in the trash on the highways that CDOT never picks up, and the fact that they spray gravel at the hint of a snowstorm, on dry roads, and front glass is a disposable item on a car in Colorado. I wouldn't waste my time repairing but I would wait until spring and get new glass. I have a star pit with 5600 miles on my allroad already too.

Makes no difference whos it is...
Safelite is Geico's main replacement company. (In NY/NJ at least) If they don't have the glass.. the get it from the dealer. It's all your call. you do not have to accept non dealer.

How would replacing a windshield affect your insurance premiums? Any increase?
I too have a couple ot dots already (5K miles), so i might go the insurance route if that won't make my premiums jump.

I tried to go with a less expensive aftermarket windshield on a BMW I used to own. Two aftermarkets were installed and both had scratches. I finally told the glass place to order OEM and it was fine.
Go with OEM.

No impact to my Massachusetts insurance premium for windshield replacements. I have had a dozen done in the last 4 to five years, 3 in the last 4 months.
I'm sure there are several variables from state to state. Talk with your neighbors.

Your insurance will likely be adversely affected..
The carrier will not increase your rate but after several glass claims, most will cancel your insurance on renewal. As trivial as it seems, it's
an unfortunate reality in todays auto insurance marketplace (in NY metropolitan area). If the glass is not severely cracked, you can get it repaired for a nominal charge (<$35.00) at most
glaziers without involving your insurer.
