Does your AC still work?
a. Did it just suddenly stop working, say over a period of a couple of days or less?
b. Or did it get progressively weaker, for example it worked last summer but this spring you turned it on and nothing.
If it's A, I bet you have a broken evaporator. $$$!
If it's B, just get it recharged with R12 alternative.
If it still works, don't mess with it.

It barely works (I've had it since July) and I've been told that it will cost about $1000 to have it fixed. That's why I was thinking about a conversion.
But I didn't know there is an R12 alternative. More info please?

Excuse me, I would like to interject something here. first of all your audi shouldnt use r-12. the audis were changed to r-134a in 1990, check under your hood to see for sure but it will tell you under there. secondly, it is impossible to find a low pressure service port because audi didnt put one on it. so what youll have to do is find a private shop somewhere near you that can pressureize your system from the high side.

R12 alternative.
I use this in my Audi CQ. Works great. I have a slow leak on my car, I just keep feeding it. Had to recharge twice this summer but buying a can of refrigerant and filling it myself is ALOT cheaper than having somebody convert the AC for me.<ul><li><a href="http://www.duracool.com/brochure.html">http://www.duracool.com/brochure.html</a</li></ul>
