Default Whatever came in the car...I'm using the 01A with the 7A flywheel, clutch disc, and pressure plate

You have to use the clutch assembly that was originally used with the particular transmission, or find one that will work. Same holds for the flywheel.

01A is from wich car?The reason I'm asking is that I hate my 20vQ tranny and would like to do a swap (with the engine too, a turbo is always welcome!) but I was wondering what are the choices that I have for the tranny?

thanks

Default What don't you like about it? You have the 01A in your 20v

...the Coupe has a slightly different gear ratio (same transmission though) but hardly enough to notice.

As Jim said, you have an 01A transmission. The 016's IMO are generally tight but heavy and vague. Gate is wide enough that I haven't missed a shift in an 016 car in a very very long time.

The 01A has a much lighter, quicker action, which I like moreso than the 016's.

The only other choice would be an 01E. Figure on spending at least $3k to get a 6spd version, plus who knows how much on the new shift linkage and such, as well as new front axles.

I wouldn't do a thing, except maybe put new syncro's into your 01A if you have grinding or if its difficult to get into gears (but first check all mounts, and do a drain/flush/fill of tranny fluid).

1)the ratio, at 140km/h I'm at 4k rpm. I like the tranny in general, for accelaration, she's perfect, the 2nd and 3rd are great but it's the 5th that I don't appreciate; I would like it to be longer as in the 5kTQ 86 (~3.4k at 140km/h).

2) Is it possible to it the 5kTQ tranny (don't know the name) when doing the swap? or is it the 016 that you told me.

Its the 016. You'd have to change the rear diff too, but to what I dunno, as the 017 rear end (case) in the B3 is different than the 017 in the 5ktq. Possibly swap the ring and pinion out, but I dunno.

Could always run a 4kq's 016, but I don't think its ratios would help out much. Plus, any 016 needs a 4kq shift mech. grafted in, not a straight swap.

The 01E comes as a 6spd, that will really drop the rev's down for cruising. Source an S2 or RS2 shift mech. and some other bits to run one. Probably at least $4k plus shipping to run a complete 01E. I'd just have a shop shorten the existing prop.

When/if I break my 01A after the 10vt swap is complete, I'll probably run a 6spd 01E.

01E is the perfect solution but 4k is alot and we are talking here about US I guess...

With my swap? Ran out of cash. Need $800 or so to finish the motor and put it in. Then there are the brakes (993's) that need attention, some minor body work, suspension needs a light overhaul, I'd like to put in a new turbo back exhaust, etc. Car will be immobile for a while longer yet

Default Go with an O16. It's what all of the rally guys use, when the can't get reasonably priced O1E...

The O16 came in the older Ur-Quattros, and the 4000 Quattros. They're about as bullet-proof as it gets, and they're plentiful/cheap.
