HELP!!!!!!! PS pump started whining this morning and foaming out the cap - dlr. told me brake fluid
This morning (but not last night when I shut the car off) when I started my '95 90, the PS pump was whining quite a bit. After driving for a block, I opened the hook b/c it was so damn loud and found that there was fluid foaming out of the PS fluid reservoir's cap. It only foams (expands) when you turn the wheel, otherwise, it's fine.
The pump looks OK, sounds OK, but whines when you turn the wheel, assumedly b/c of the foaming.
I THINK it's b/c when I called the dealer the other day about what type of PS fluid to use, they told me to use DOT 4 brake fluid. So I did; I used DOT 4 Prestone brake fluid. IS THIS my problem? I put in, maybe, 4 ozs...?

Doesn't your car use Mineral Hydraulic Fluid???
All '88-95 cars do, IIRC. If so, you MUST USE THE PROPER FLUID. Otherwise, you will damage the system. The dealer told you completely wrong! DOT4 is NOT compatable with MHF. Go and ask for G002000 "oil for hydraulic system and power steering". There are also some compatable fluids from Mercedes, Jaguar (Castrol), Febi Bilstein, Lucas, etc.

Called the dealer - their mgmt. is freaking out b/c their advice may have f'ed my car...
Both their Parts AND Service departments told me to use DOT 4 in place of the Pentosin. But a few minutes ago I called my guy in parts who told me "HELL NO, DON'T USE BRAKE FLUID!" I said OK, so your guy in parts is now responsible for my damage. They're DELIVERING 2 FREE liters of Pentosin and I'm flushing the system in a few mins. If the problem is still there, they KNOW I'll take action against them. What else?!

Cripe. I'm leaking everywhere, and not in a good way.
There is PS fluid leaking from EVERYWHERE and ANYWHERE possible. Looks like it's the dealer's turn to elect what needs to be done next b/c I sure as hell am not busting my hump over this!
