2.2turbo conversion!! Help!
I'm having a little trouble, and wonder if you might help?
I have a '88 Audi Coupe, and I am currently trying to drop in the lump from a '83 A200.
My coupe has the 2.2 lump, the replacement is the 2.2 Turbo.
The trouble is, the exhaust manifold and wastegate foul on the o/s trackrod, and the turbo itself hits the headlight support.
Have you tried this conversion before? Or could you help in any way??
Many thanks

As for the turbo fitment issue, you'll need a different exhaust manifold and downpipe to go with that. The MC/KG/JY/KH codes would be far better.
BTW, the '83 10vt motor isn't that great. I'd actually NOT use it. Its not intercooled for one, and two its barely more powerful than an NF/NG motor. Three, the turbo is oil only, no water cooling.

From the 100/200 series cars:
'88-91 MC code, 165hp
'88 KG code, 182hp
'88-91 1B code, 200hp
'88-91 2B code, 190hp
From the Turbo quattro Coupe (aka quattro)
'88 WR code, 200hp
'88 GV code, 200hp
'88-90 WX code, 162hp
'88-90 MB code, 200hp
You'll need to check into clutch & flywheel issues too. Your clutch assembly is a 228mm, and the turbo motors you should be using are all 240mm. You could probably run a flywheel from the donor car, as well as its clutch disc and pressure plate. Same transmission input shaft IIRC, so the disc should match up with the splines w/out problem.
You have the right idea in running a turbo motor instead of the KV. Just didn't choose wisely ;-) Also, since your Coupe is an '88, its a type85 chassis. Our cars are type89/8A/8B/8C/8G, all newer than yours. However, the 10vt swap is still very similar. The 4k/CGT forum may be able to better answer specific questions, however I know a thing or two, as do a few others on here...

He isn't limited to just using an MC, he's got MANY options for a 10vt over there (see my other post).
Also, you don't have to be a professional to do an engine swap! I'm not a professional mechanic, but I've only had to farm out a small handful of things to a machine shop for my engine swap. I applaud what you have done and are doing, don't get me wrong, but the nature of this forum isn't conducive for a shop (on the wrong side of the Atlantic no less) to try and drum up business. Besides, your site doesn't give insight at how to go about swapping a 10vt in place of a 10v or 20v.
Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
1. Just because someone "claims" to be a "professional" - doesn't mean they ARE a "professional". As you have indicated, most true "professionals" are actually dedicated smart mechanics, like yourself.
2. I agree that J Boykin's company intentions appear to be good, after all, starting a business is, in fact an American dream, right?
3. I have also, to this day, not seen any other engine swaps via pictures, documentation. So, can you tell me why I should give someone 7500.00 to swap an Audi engine with no proof they've ever done one...Like say... the 2.7TT swap listed? Hmmmmmm. Case in point, last week Ryder asks if the 2.7TT swap is even feasable in a B3/B4 (answer being no, unless massive plasma cutting is involved), now suddenly, according to the website, they can do it? Hmmmmmm.
My advise, and here, repeater is being serious....
There are people who have good business skills and people who have good skills in what they are in business for. Some have both. This is rare. They are called professionals. You can see where this is going. If I were you Audiryder, I'd tone down some of the auto-rhetoric that you spew - alot of people on here see right through the bull****. I think you're head is in the right direction - but I have still to see a post from you that actually displays any sort of general Audi technical knowledge that you hold yourself in such high esteem about.
Perhaps I'm wrong? I dont know - maybe you can prove it to me. It's nothing personal, in fact, I admire your motivation for success in being an entrepreneuar. Hopefully sonner than later you'll learn that spewing a punch of rhetoric is pointless when trying to obtain customers and respect - there's a fine line to walk, as most will tell you.
