1991 coupe quattro questions

What kind of mileage did these cars get? What to look for when purchasing with one having 110,000 miles on the ticker? Timing belt, h2o pump and brakes have been repaired.

i am at 213,000 and still running strong

I know of people getting 300,000+ plus too. Just have to make sure you take care of it.

I've heard the VW/Audi engines last a long time as long as you change the oil/filter every 5K miles....not sure how much truth there is in that

...and I bought it in 2000 w/ 245k. Its been great to me despite my often spirited driving.
As far as you buying a CQ, past maintinance records will help you know what is good to go and what may need attention. The timing belt is probably the most important one, also check out the suspension; a lot of little susp. parts and labor can run up a healthy bill. Other than that and the basics (runs well, decent shifting, no 'weird' noises, no highway shimmies) you should be good to go. Good luck!!

Just bought a '91 with 124,000 miles...

Previous owner was very good about taking the car to get serviced and kept all records. Luckily for me, the timing belt was changed around 100k miles. Shifting is smooth and I was told that the engine should easily run to 220k miles with the proper maintenance. It makes me not want to put a turbo engine in it... How much does a good, used engine go for?
