my exhaust doesn't have anything to do with it... I don't even have hi-flow cats (well, not just yet at least.)
HydroCarbons & NOx were both a little above the "max allowable", but that was just at idle...during the power tests it all evened out nicely. Guess I sat too long @ the Aircare center =F
Oh well, gonna get a stock airfilter & put my box back in. Clean the MAF sensor, clean or replace plugs, *maybe* pull of the TB & clean it up (I think it's really sticky due to some oil overflow issues I had earlier). Pour some alchohol into the tank, up the tire pressure, and then hopefully she'll go through.
After that I suppose o2 sensors (ack, don't wanna do those) and/or Cats... or else I just pay a shop to tweek the sh*t outta the engine & then they take it through and it "passes."
anyhow, that's the disappointment for today. Just thought I'd share

20v? Same thing happened to me in the Coupe a week ago.
Passed at speed, failed low idle. Going back on the nineth. I'm not making any changes, just trying again. It's not worth it to make changes: the 20v is a bi-o-atch to get to pass at idle in strict states (like CT). Even the Audi techs smile and say "good luck", so there is a chance I may have to spend $660 to qualify for a waiver. Here's the real screw: the 660 has to be spent a licensed emissions shop. I can replace OXS, plugs, wires, ISV, cap rotor, blah, blah, blah, but none of the parts count toward the 660 if they don't come from the shop. So unless something is obviously broken and you know you will pass by replacing it, don't bother if you live in CT.

I guess I made an improvement.
I would change your O2 sensors. Even if they are not the culprit they will pay for themselves in improved gas mileage. I can even hook you up with a cheap source.

anyhow, thanks for the enouragement. I'll for sure take you up on the o2 source, as I see your point of improved gas mileage. I'll get around to swapping them out in a while.
You have nice readings btw. those numbers are similar to what our Volvo's would get... damn Audi shoulda learned somethin from NWG-BLU.

My CQ did the same when I bought it (all stock at the time, tested on awd dyno): 0.25 too much HC and 2.8 too much NOx!! (yes they ran it as a 6 cylinder) At the time I spent over $250 in emmision-related repairs and got a 2 year waiver. Then, back in august '02, I passed on a simple tailpipe test (it was hot and the guys didnt wanna set up the awd dyno). I'm due again around august of this year, hopefully I can run the **** out of it prior and get the guys to tailpipe it. Or I might even have the 20vt done by then,...might! Anyhow, good luck with it.
