Default Engine Swap

Ok so winter is almost here and I have been doing some research. Will take the Cab off the road around Nov. or first snowfall.

Now I have searched the forum and found that everyone pretty much agrees that a 20vt is the best swap for the 90 engine bay for overall cost/power.

Now I was wondering, with medium mods what this engine can push a.) and what kind of cost I am looking at (3-4k) or (6-7k).

I personally have been looking at the 2.8l 30valve with the PES supercharger. I figure it pushes a stock engine to 295. Add the throttle body, cold air, exhaust, ported and polished heads, and intake manifold, oh and headers and this engine is going to be somewhere around 350 actual wheel horsepower. It would probably fit into the engine bay easier and the only difficult thing I view would be converting to OBD2. Now estimated costs for something like this would be around $10000 grand easily. I know I can pick up a crashed A4 for like ($2-$3k) which has a manual tranny, which I will also need. The PES is $5k, and around 2-3k in engine mods. + I will DIY.

Lemme know your input.

And on a side note does anyone know why PES wasnt able to fabricate a supercharger for the 12v. Could it be done, or did they not see any profit in doing so.

Thx

Default Too much Power

I ran into a link on the site of a guy who had it done to his FWD A4, I saw no complaints of tranny issues. Either which way I would definately beef up the tranny no matter what. I am more interested in knowing whether the 20vt would cost less producing the same amount of HP.

In the other posts you have made regarding the 30v swap with the PES charger, I as well as several others have said it would be cheaper to go 20vt.

Default To have a completely swapped, "mildly modded" 20VT....

You're probably looking upwards of $6k. There are lots of problems, or rather issues, with going with the 30v. One being the cost...for all the work you want to do, I doubt you'll actually see 350 hp at the crank, let alone the wheels. And the cost would be well over $10k by the time you're finished, even DIY. Either way you go, you should look into a limited slip dif.

Default To answer the most basic aspect of your question... a 20v will definitely produce more for less.

295 out of the 30v V6 is BARELY anymore than a chipped 20v will make, most chips claim high 200's.

Not to mention, the 20v then has all those Rs2 goodies you can add later. Simple Rs2 stuff will get you high 300's if done right.

Plus, it's just more historic =)

Default Driver skill does help...

but it still won't make the torque steer of high hp FWD apps.

I wasn't commenting on your driver skill either, simply stating that this occurs with FWD and provides one reason for my love of quattro.
