Default Ok, gauge faces installed...odo is working!! (pics this time)

Killed 2 birds with one ball bearing last night: my odometer stopped working all of a sudden and I got the corrected speedo face in the mail yesterday.

The odometer gear was amazingly simple. After you get the gauge free from the cluster, you just have to remove 2 phillips screws and remove an elec. motor-kinda-thing and board. This is what you get:

You can see the missing toof, the old gear slides off and the new one slid on. Carefully reassemble the board to the gauge without dropping gears everywhere and you're all set.

Next, the gauge face installation is a little trickier than I though...purely due to the needles. I broke my speedo needle in 2 places and thought I totaled the gauge when the needle was dragging and getting stuck. What I had to do was bend the small coil back from rubbing the internals. I couldn't get a pic cause the camera died, and I'd be here all day explaining it. Good news is, I superglued the needle and straightened the gauge guts....and now everything works fine. I wish I coulda taken more pics, but...oh well. Godspeed!!

The lighting is....I'd say par with what Tim has been reporting; I need to install higher watt bulbs and there is some light bleeding through around the outside of the face and around the needle 'port'. For my purposes, they will do just fine after I up the brightness. I was thinking about the bleed-through afterwards, it might be due to the thinner faces because they aren't pressed against the back of the cluster face. Hmmmm.

Default Ya, Autometer 'Phantom' A/F gauge...

...it was an x-mas present, with the expectation that I would buy a 20vt doner car within the month. Unfortunately, I had to let it slide due to my financial/living conditions at the time...oh well, it looks cool and my girl friends like the pretty lights. :P

Default WARNING! ! !...on a newer clusters you can't separate the circuit board just like that....

That is actually how I broke my speedo...I tried separating it from the back (the newer ones have 4 phillips on the back) and there was a little, I wanna call it wire but its one of those brown looking wires that lets say go around electro-magnet...I am not electronics guy so forgive me....anyways...there is little tiny wire like that connected to a board and if you try pulling on the board it will break and there is no way to fix....what you have to do is to locate it and use solder gun to let it go off the board on the back of the speedo.....NOTE: this is not necessary for installing the gauge faces, only if your cluster gear is broken or you simply want to get in there....my curiosity took me in

If you are not sure whether you have older or newer cluster speedo look here....the one on the left is newer one and right side one is older...btw, these both came in B4 90's so I am not sure whether this applies to B3's or CQ's
