Default Tire size

Does anyone know the widest tire I can go with on a 17"x7.5" tire? 225? 235?

Default 225 is the largest I've seen recommended by a tire manufacturer. 235 I've seen offered from some

shops.

so 17x7.5 = 225
17x8 = 235 in my opinion which ain't worth much.

Default You are probably going to kill your performance going with a 225 tire. I mean inless

the car has the V8 in it already. )

Default what aspects of performance do you mean?....

Maybe it is an oversimplification, and a very genral statement, but I've been told by some tire folks that as you increase tire, you get performance increases in acceleration, cornering and braking. The thing that does go down is your gas mileage. But this is old information, when 16" rims were the latest and greatest thang. 18" tire technology wasn't around at that time, at least not for the consumer market. With what options are on the market now, it would seem that someone could over do it and purchase much more tire than they need IMO. The point, or tire size, at which performance deacrease would really depend on the vehicle and how it is driven, no?

Default i'd recommend 225/45/17, to ensure a rub free ride.

235 will probably fit, but you may rub under load.

Default Acceleration..

Handling would increase the wider tire would stick to the road a lot better. But when you slap a tire that big on a small car that is underpowered you can lose acceleration. To much tire contact can equal to to much friction. Plus its adding more weight into the mix.
