Default Hi everyone. (first post)

I love this forum! I've been lurking for a little bit, since i started shopping for my current audi, and I have to say that this is the most informative group I've seen on any car. The cool part is that the topic covers my favorite cars. Right, so I'm a total newbie, although this is my second audi, and i have a lot of questions. Here's a couple:

1. When I start my 1989 90, my marker lights function properly, but my headlights won't turn on for about 5 minutes. Where should i start looking for problems?

2. the metal cable that runs through the power window motor is snapped on my driver's side front window. Is it difficult to replace with some new cable, or should I search some junkyards for a replacement?

3.a (Ultra Newbie Question) The two swithes on the dash to the right of the driver's seat-heater control are for front and rear fogs?
b Should the second switch
automatically engage the first?

I haven't seen anyone else posting such beginner questions as these, so is there some other forum more appropriate for me? (In other words, is this kinda stuff annoying?)

Thanks a lot!

Default more thoughts

first off, starting your car with your markers on just makes the car work harder to start, by the way you worded it, it seems you do so. just a notice.
the headlights sounds like the relay. i have never had that happen with my 88.

never dealt with the cable, but if its standard you could buy the length you need, get some crimps and fix it yourself or atleast give it a shot

Default As once having your car, with similar problems...

My 1990 Audi 90 had the headlight issue as well, what I did was get a new staulk switch. What others told me to do on top of that is create a wiring harness or relay from the headlights back to the switch. On the window regulator issue, you can buy kits at your dealership for around 75-100 bucks that have all the wires and stuff you need to rebuild your regulator(or wires). As for the foglight switches...The headlights must be on to operate unless you have modded the relays; you must first engage the fronts and then the back, you cannot just run the rear fogs IIRC with my 90. And most importantly, nice car and I am glad we pulled you out of lurking status.

Default Welcome. Replacing the window cable is not that difficult. If I could do it, anyone can. I just did

it three weeks ago. Follow the write up on absoluteCQ's web site (search for his name, the link is in his signature).
I have owned three Audi's and on each of them the rear fog switch automatically engages the front fogs.

Lastly: You have come to the right place. On a whole I have never seen a bunch of informative people. They are always willing to help. Occasionally, you will put up with some ribbing but it is all in good fun.

Default If you engage your rear fog, it automatically turns on the fronts, no? That's how all my Audis...

...have been.

Default I *think* he meant after he starts his car, his running lights come on with no problem...

...it's just the headlights which take time to work.
