to replace the cv boot, do i need to take off the half axle, or can i take it off like other cars...

I did the outer boots with the axels left on the car

the bolt that holds it all together will also pull the cv joint off. The inner ones, one would need to remove the axel.

This should be close at least to your procedure. I just did mine 3 days ago, pretty easy, but I recommend removing the shafts. It may be a PITA to drive off the joint while under the car.

no need to drive off joint, just use the axel bolt to push them apart.
