A little help, What are the signs of a leaking headgasket?

I've noticed that my coolent has dropped 1/2" from the max recently, and it has been pinging alot lately?
If it is the head gasket, what should I replace while i'm in there.

Any help would greatly be appreciated,

Check

Check your oil to see if the coolant has mixed with it, otherwise you should be blowing smoke if you head gasket is blown. If it just got cold out where you live, you might have a coolant leak somewhere.

Buy a compression checker.

Signs are frothy oil on the dip stick, oil mixed in with the coolant in the expansion tank, and other signs of oil and coolant mixing.

I'll check for mixed oil, and try a compression check,

havn't seen any fluid on the ground.
