Default Noticed I am missing a sub frame bolt....! Size?

Yesterday, while changing oil, I noticed the gap between my subframe and the body of the car. I checked the other side to see if the gap was normal and...... low and behold there is a bolt hoding the subframe to the car, where the other side had nothing...This will account for a lot of the drive train slack.... I feel like a dumbass. You'd think I would have noticed this with the work I've been doing lately.

Does Anyone know the size of the subframe bolt for a B4.It's for the front drivers side. Right next to the motor mount......Thanks

You might want to ask yourself the question, what cause the subframe bolt to jump up and disappear

Probably improper install.. Possibly not torqued down properly.

Default do yourself a big favor on this and buy the Audi bolt... sure you can put a hardware bolt in...

temporarily but this is a special "flare head" bolt with an outer flange integral to the bolt head. Its a stressed area and a "structural" bolt. Not one to substitute permanently with a different/lesser quality item.

You also run the risk of the bolt still being there but snapped off at the captive nut in the frame rail. Its a long shot but a distinct possibility none-the-less. If so it requires a little surgery thru the wheel well. One I posted about with pics last week.

Default Do you have a book?

I got this car 2 years ago. Decided I didnâ€TMt need a book because I have a dad that use to work for a garage. I never worked on a car until I got this car and I have done so much to this car already. But after 2 years I found I need a book. Itâ€TMs just so much more helpful.

Default Now peek up inside the subframe bushing w/a light and make sure the bolt...

is "missing" and not broken off up inside at the frame rail anchor nut. If it is you've got a little surgery in your future.

Far better to know now than be surprised when you try to install the new bolt and find it only goes 1.5" inside the subframe bushing pilot.
