what's wrong with OE plastic one? I think it covers more stuff down there than that one.

Default I think OE gets eliminated

and this protects the oil pan. Useful for a lowered car, or someone who goes on back country roads in the winter.

Default But OE covers the oil pan as well - I don't get it....if you hit it hard enough to bust the OE

I don't think aluminum is going to help much either.

Default OE is plastic-like

It is just for air passage, cooler temp and quieter ride. It cannot buffer much hit either. The aluminum oil pan o the otherhand is simply for extra protection. Might not be too necessay for our car, but I know it has saved the lives of a couple lowered MkIII Jetta that I know have lower oil pans then our Audis.
Hitting a curb or protuding surface will simply wrip your oil pan open similar to this.

Just imagine which one could be used for a rally going vehicle.
