Default HOLY **** - My CQ is full of water

I just located the stubborn leak that i've been having and it's a ****ty situation and I'll try to discribe it as best i can. The water is not coming in from the sunroof, the hatch or the window seals. On the outside of the car if you look at the top corners of the windshield on BOTH sides, there is a thin A-pillar body panel witch runs from the bottom corners of the windshield to the top corners(panel is colour of paint and about 2 inches wide). Where it meets up with the roof, it is supposed to be sealed but i guess in these older cars('91 Coupe Quattro)things just don't line up as good as they should be. Anyway, there is a small gap at this point. Water get's in the gap, runs down the inside of the pillar panel. Now when it gets to the bottm of this panel at the bottom corner the the windshield, it somehow gets to running down the indise of where the door seal is. out the bottom the black interior trim panel piece(left of clutch pedal) and literaly is pouring into the floor of my car. I need a remedy fast. How can i seal this up? How can I remove this A-Pillar panel? THere is a serious problem with mould/mildew growing in the sound absorbing foam underneath the carpet. I've been very sick for two months STRAIGHT. This is my every day driver and now i know why it feels like i'm dying. PLEASE HELP ME.

Thank you

Ryan

Default well lucky for you I just fixed mine a few weeks ago...

As far as I can tell this is caused by a shotty job of window replacement. If you consult your Bently you will see that the trim that the weather stripping slips into, seperating the body from the weather stripping, is attached with rivets. On my car these rivits were drilled out and replaced with #8 sheet metal screws that didn't fit worth a darn and were not tight.

What does this do you ask... well that little rubber molding around the whole top side of the L/R side openings of the car is attached in this same way and the only thing keeping the water from seeping in behind this is... well nothing. I rivited mine back into place with some pop rivets. Some of the areas are somewhat tight and you might have to get creative with the gun to get them to seat correctly (I.E. hack saw a larger rivet and slide the sleve portion, w/o the head, over the nail to extend the gun away from the car a little) this will buy you some space.

Well long story longer, it fixed my problem and I'm 99% sure that is what is happening here. If you are so inclined you can put some sealant in there to make double darn sure it's not going to leak, after all, that foam strip may be all worn away by now from being wet. Some strip caulk would work ok, there are better things to use, though I can't think of them right now.

HTH. Paul.

Yup, I had to have my window resealed and rivets replaced to fix this as well.
