Does this sound like a bad strut mount or a bad strut?

When I drive over rough road, I get a very loud rumbling from the front right of my car - It's like there's no suspension. I jacked up that side of the car so the wheel is hanging, then I push down on the wheel, and I can push the whole wheel down about 1cm. I checked the other wheel and it doesn't move at all when I do this. Does this point to a bad strut or a bad mount or both?

Also, I spent a lot of money to have both the struts and strut mounts replaced one year ago. What's going on? How can I be having mechanical failure in only one year/10000 miles?

if you replaced the struts, its most likely just the mounts

grab the wheel, when its jacked, if you can move the strut around, like jiggling, then the mount is bad. I suggest also getting some good strut mounts. Look at ubernugen.com for them.

I put on the OEM green mounts that everybody said to use! They should last more than a year, right?

Not exactly. My friends 95 had them for 9 months before they went..

..He just picked up a set of Mance Mounts and is FAR happier. The price is up there, but the worries are gone. A nice trade off IMHO.

I've completely collapsed two green sets in under 2 weeks. I mean COMPLETELY collapsed!

Granted it was during track laps but track is still smooth as glass compared to city streets or even the interstate highways. Race cars wont race on tracks with potholes or anything near "street quality" pavement! And no organization will book any track for a race that is less than perfect due to liability issues.

I give em a 2 minute to 90 day life even in an ideal environment. Throw in 1 pothole, bump or uneven set of multiple railroad tracks and they're toast!
