1990 20v quattro- misfires and runs super rich..HELP!

I am new to the audi world and I just bought a 1990 audi 90 quattro 20v.
It misfires and stumbles and runs super rich. major carbon in the tailpipe and blackish/grey smoke too. I will pull the plugs and check them first. I don't believe my wires are bad because i have had my hands and fingers all over them with no shock.
I need help before spending tons of money on this thing!!!

thankyou guys...... one last thing..how do you know if your injectors are toast????

Replace the distributor rotor and cap and spark plugs

My '89 90q 10v was running rich when I bought it. The distributor rotor and cap were so worn out that it wasnt creating spark all the time.

Replace your 02 sensor!!!!! And I'd at least throw some new plugs in because now yours are all carboned up.

Overly rich running could be a bad O2 sensor.

Do a tune up (as per RS4ktq's post). Could also be an O2, as per Tony's post.

But, it could also be the injectors are toast, electronically (the coils fail before anything else)...

test your MAF sensor using Bently instructions

(as closely as you can). -Particularly if you have a cone intake.
