Default solid strut mounts

I am thinking about buying the "mance" mounts, but would like some feedback from others first. I have Bilsteins and H&R's on now, just installed a couple of weeks ago along with new green strut mounts, ball joints...etc. I think my strut mounts may have already gone...i mean gone. How do you guys rate them on lowered and stiffened suspensions?
Thanx!

Default I think you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone other than "lowered/stiffened" suspension...

using them. Hard to imagine someone with stock suspension and a hankerin for solid strut mounts.

I'll reserve comment on them as obviously I have an ulterior motive. But I've yet to see personal email feedback or a posted review with less than stellar comments.

Default I'm using them with a 100% stock suspension

I just put in new stock KYB inserts and new bushings all the way around last year.

mine is a winter monster first and foremost; i want the ground clearance and i want the soft suspension as the car is needed for snow and ice driving 4 months of the year. We dont salt anywhere and we only plow the extra thick stuff. Theres a permanant snow/ice/pack layer on most of the road surfaces i drive.

I bought the solid mounts because the stock ones are complete bull****. The failure mode is downright unsafe.

The solid mounts have eliminated the camber slop you get from a failed mount and i dont see anyway for them to have the same failure mode.

My car also has no power steering, so all the steering feelings are unmasked. I notice that at times i have to work to unwind the wheel from full lock as opposed to the caster-return doing this for me. I dont know if my caster is way out or if there is some binding going on in the mounts or what.

Overall i am highly satisfied with the mounts as they haven't fallen apart. That makes them much better than the stock crap. My 90Q is a very shoestring budget vehicle but this is an easy upgrade to justify - the stock mounts will just get unsafe. Mine lasted less than 8 months.

Default I've held them in my hands. They looked and felt very pretty. Unfortunately I had to give them to

their proper owner.

Default WOW, I had no idea there was a stock suspension user. And how do you manage to make turns?

The times I've run with my PS pump disconnected it was all I could do to turn the wheels, especially at a crawl. Parallel parking would've been impossible for me. But then again 245/40 z-rated tires on 8.5" wide wheels are no help!

Default Yep.

Last summer i pulled everything off the car except the subframes, bead blasted it all, and then painted it. The paint is mostly gone, so at some point i may do the whole excercize again and powder coat like i should have...(didn't want to invest the money for powder last summer).. although im wondering if i can get buy with the harbor freight do-it-your-self powder coating gun

w.r.t. making turns:

- I practice apexing on the street
- i have substantial upper body strength
- i've driven the car this way most of the time i've owned it.

i was sick of the power steering system bleeding itself dry of the green gold so i just removed 100% of the PS components and put bolts in the rack after topping it off. Now i can get around to rebuilding/repairing all parts at my leisure.

Default I replaced shocks and strut mounts (the green ones) in March of 2004 shortly after

purchasing my 1991 CQ. Since then I have replaced, sway bar links, control arm bushings (F&R) and subframe bushings (F&R). Car still handled like crap. Got in on the group buy for the "Mance Mounts" and installed them last week. THE CAR HAS NEVER HANDLED BETTER. THE "MANCE MOUNTS" ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's to you "1PissedOff90" and your 'relentless pursuit of perfection'. You have achieved it.

'nuff said.
