88 audi 90 2.0L engine swap

i have an 88 audi 90 2.0L with 250,000kms. the car is running unstable from time to time. i have put a lot of work into the exterior and interior, and therefor am thinking of doign an engine swap with a newer VW or Audi motor. i just wanted any information on which engines swap the easiest, which are the most worth it, which are the best to rebuild, etc.

Name calling isn't necessary, he's telling the truth though...engine swaps aren't cheap...

Since you have a 2.0L 4-cylinder it doesn't leave you with many low-cost options. One I looked into on my 2.0L 80 was a 16V swap from a '90-'92 GTI/GLI (9A engine)...
