Default Calling Calgary's "Ben"

Hello Ben,

Originally, I am a VW guy that is naturally making my progression into Audi vehicles. I registered with Audiworld because I am about to purchase a 1990 CQ. The owner had mentioned a guy by the name of "Ben" who knows alot about these cars, that frequented these forums. So I thought I should track you down.

I too am from Calgary, and I would like to ask you a few questions regarding the car, and possibly do some work to it. I know my way around vehicles (VW's), and still own them, but I havent got the time to put into them as I once had. This is where you come in. Anyhow, I just thought I would give it a shot. If not, point me in the direction where I can get some quality work done to the vehicle.

Default Well you've definitely come to the right place! This is probably the best forum for North American.

...'90-'91 CQs...I personally have never owned a CQ (or a 90 with the 7A/20V 5-cylinder engine). There's plenty of folks here who do (or have)...so feel free to shoot questions their way.

<A HREF="http://www.20v.org" target="_blank">20v.org</A> has a lot of great info on the coupes and I'd look there (and search here) before asking anything regarding the CQ (chances are if your CQ is having that problem, another has before!).

Thanks! The car itself is realtively in good working order. He had stated that the rear diff 'clunks' when shifting hard, but it does not hum and/or 'clunk' during normal shifting/operation. I figure that it could just be the rear mounts as they are prone to wear, but another notion is that the rear diff is wearing away. I just wanted to get a few opinions as to what to do with it. Thanks again for the quick reply.

I'd start with the mounts...how many mi/kms are on the car?

228,000 km
The car was originally a British Columbia (Canada) vehicle, so rust is non-existent. The interior is in above average condition, with slight wear on the leather.

Thats what I had thought. Aren't the diff's strong with the mounts being the weak point?

I'd love to give you a hand with the car. I do know my way around them pretty well, having done a complete S2/RS2 conversion to my own in the last couple of years. This is a great forum and there probably isn't a question you could ask that couldn't be answered here. Anyway, drop me an email and we'll get together and have a look at your new car.

BTW, this car wouldn't happen to be the pearl CQ out of Winnipeg would it?

Cool, finally found someone did S2 conversion in alberta~ I'm a frist year automotive student in edmonton, doing restore and research for drop a v8 pt or abh engine in my CQ, and wish to know how do you upgrade wheel hub and brake system~
