Default What part is this exactly?

Okay, I need to replace this part in the middle of the pic (that the distributor connects to evidently) as the black wire that connects to the hall sender broke off and it's impossible to get a butt connector attached.

What is this part called exactly and where can I get a replacement? I don't own a Bentley and I need to get this POS running before it starts snowing hard.

TIA.

Okay, onto stupid question #2: Once I get a replacement, what's the procedure for setting timing on a 10v 5 banger?

Not sure about the 10v...but the 20v ecu sets the timing, so all you have to do is get it close.

Default You can replace just the hall sensor unit...

Check out autohausaz.com or bimmerparts.com for it. You'll have to take the distributor apart to to it though. If you can find a used one, good luck finding one without the connector hanging by the wires. Either way, to install, set the engine to TDC on the flywheel ("0" lined up in the window). There might be a seperate ignition mark. I don't remember. Just line it up, then install the distributor so that the rotor is pointing right at the little scribed mark on the housing. Tighten it down lightly and install the cap/wires. Start it up, install a fuse in the fuel pump relay, use a timing light. I forget the setting. Turn the dizzy to get it set and tighten it down good. Remove the fuse from the relay and you're done. Good luck.
