Mirror help...
Heated elements were out on my cab so thought I'd check the wires/glass and replace etc...well the glass was a b!t*h to get off...and yep it came away with the whole of the gyro part and snapped the white plastic pivot part (crappy phone photo attached)....wish I'd left it alone but....
Question - does the outer hosing come away from the body? Mine is painted Indigo Blue Pearl, and all I can find is unpainted black replacements...are these just painted as complete units....and I assume I can't replace the broken part...
I can see the 4 screws that hold the outer case to the inner workings, but having removed them I can't get it off... Do I need to remove the whole thing from the car...and is there some other thing holding it in place??
Over-engineered in one area and delberatley weak in another is an understatement...these things have 8 clips to hold the glass to the gyro, which is then barely held by that white bar, and I could hardly remove them once I broke the gyro off and had the whole thing in my hands and able to get a screwdriver underneath each clip...
I'll have a go....but can see a brand new unit having to be painted...not that is going to be easy...they must have come pained pre-assembly???
All I wanted was heated glass...and chance to change from the flat glass to the blindspot type...

...without it I can see how the stress would be too much...
So a replacment is on on the cards, anyone know if the painted ones differ from the standard black plastic ones...getting it painted looks to be a nasty job, as you can't get good access to all the surfaces, especially where it meets the rubber seal part....were these availavle in pre-painted colours?
