10v timing marks?

10v timing marks?

I have reason to beleive that my valve timing could be a bit off, 160psi compression, and I can't find my timing marks to check for sure. I've got the valve cover off but I've looked all over and can't seem to find them.

Behind the camgear

There should be a dimple at the rear of the camgear. It lines up with the top of the valve cover on the drivers side. Should be a small window to peek through to find it. There is also a mark in the bellhousing to check the crank timing.

found the dimple but.....

it lines up with the top of the gasket sealing surface on the driver's side of valve cover, towards the bottom of the window. There doesn't seem to be a mark on the valve cover and there is plenty of room in the 'window' to move the gear a tooth each way, maybe two if I move the dimple "up".

looked again

I spun the engine around to the "0" mark again and now the dimple is centered in the window. There is room to move it one tooth each way and stay in the window. The compression seems very high to me and the car does not want to keep running below about 1500rpm when it does start which is very difficult.
