Default Help with Stock 2001 2.8 A4 Quattro...

I have a stock A4 sport package Quattro. I've been contemplating upgrades for a long time. I just recently put in a short shifter. I've scoured the threads for some advice, but everyone seems to have a 1.8t. I don't think I want to go supercharger, so here's what I'm thinking:

GIAC chip from PES
Exhaust (not sure which one)
Cold Air Intake

Beyond that I look to everyone's advice. Also, I'm looking for an exhaust and CAI, so if anyone has any good leads on a used one or a good deal on a new one, please feel free to let me know.

Default Do it......those three mods combined will make quite a nice difference......

I've done them to my 99 2.8, and it's a substantially faster car than it was stock.

I've had these mods for a couple of years now with no problems whatsoever.

Go for it. Mod money well spent.

Default GIAC chips are good....

milltek makes good exhausts, so does borla, if you are more creative you can make your own exhaust with some magnaflow mufflers and a couple of mandrel bends and some straight pipe, for about half as much.

cold air intake, I had one for my 12v 2.8 but I need to improve it a little bit before I start telling people how to make it themselves.

If you want lots of power without lots of $$$ get a ZEX nitrous oxide system for about $500, you can score another 75hp for the 2.8 at wide open throttle. Or if you are me, and are planning on doing a 3 stage Zex system, you can get 35, 55 or 75 depending on what mood you are in.

Thanks for the advice, I don't know that I'm ready to put NOS or build my own CAI or exhaust. Just looking for an easy way to bolt on parts with minimal hassle, but wasn't sure on what parts I should go with.

Default Part of modding is the fun of DIY stuff

I've got 2 tech articles in the tech section and I've only been on here for 10 months or so.

Nitrous, not nos NOS is a mfg not a modification. NAWSSSSS is how the ignorant say it, and demonstrate their ignorance. Nitrous actually from what I've read so far works quite well on the 2.8 the Zex system leaves very little to worry about and even less to go wrong since it monitors bottle pressure and compensates with the fuel pressure automatically. I know somebody on here has a NX kit in his 30v and he is running a 100hp shot wit no problems, Just Dave has a Zex kit and yours truly is going the same way.

Or you can supercharge the car for $5000 and get the same results. Supercharging is probably nicer, but at 10x the price, I'd rather go for N2O. I can make a nitrous control system that will make the Nitrous work like the supercharger anyways. Also I can remove the N20 system in an hour, a supercharger is considerably more permanent.

Anyways, I am hell bent on making my 12v as quick as a Stage III 1.8T. That means I need to make about 275hp at the crank.

Default Hey man, can I ask you about your side skirts?

I am probably going to paint my valances this summer and I am totally confused about how I will do side skirts.. Those look like the S4 skirts right? I would like to do the same.

1) What parts do you need? This is what always confuses me, like what comes off of the car and what goes on, and what you need to keep it on, etc. No clue here atm.

2) How much did it all cost you?

Thanks man.
