Default P.O.S.: A4 Avant Flat-bedded 3 times in 1.5 years

Anyone know about lemon laws? I bought my Audi Assured 1998.5 A4 Avant 2.8 Quattro from a dealer about 1.5 years ago. It currently has 94K miles on it, so the AA warrnty is about to expire. It's a pleasure to drive when it's in running condition, but that seems to be getting more rare these days. Thank god I held onto my backup car: my 1991 Honda Accord EX with 220K miles.

I just had to have the A4 towed for the 3rd time after the roller pulley for the timing belt broke leaving me stranded. There is valve damage, and the cylinder heads are f****d. If I had driven 6000 more miles before this happened, my warranty would have run out and I'd have to shell out $4000 of my own money. Luckily the extended warranty seems to be the only thing about this car that doesn't suck. Oh yeah, it needs a new rocker arm and suspension work as well. What else has been repaired so far you may ask...let's see...the whole front end (grill, bumper hood, radiator) after the dealership ran it into another car on the lot; the coolant temp. sensor (twice), the cup holders (twice); the center counsol; two coils; the sparkplug wires; a lug nut that the dealer forgot to tighten; the driver's side mirror (mechanical issues); two sets of headlights have burned out for no apparent reason; and there has been much more, but I can't think of it off the top of my head.

Just had to vent about this POS. I'm selling before the Audi Assured warranty is expired. Probably won't be back in the market for an Audi though.

Default and your 2nd post, wow

as far as i know it has to be the same problem more then twice or a period of time in for service vs on the road, timing belt should have been changed at 60k miles, accidents happen, if you are going to sell it who cares! Do a google search on lemon laws im sure its different from state to state.

Default on the other hand, he's right, from a reliablility stand point, they are POS's

We've had ours for just over one year. cruise control broken (again), control arm (again), tie rod ends, two air bags, sunroof f'd, squeaks everywear, door molding peeling off, door pin switch bad, driver's door power window making ominious sounds, exhuast welded, heated mirrors broken (again), Driver side door hinge squeals no matter how much grease I put in, Cloth interior stained to hell from a little rain....This was a one owner dealer maintained car and I saw a list of the things that were done to it before we bought it. It wasn't a short list. Some of these things are known problems and easily taken care of but some of them are just completley unacceptable on a five year old car with just 90K. We'll keep it until the bitter end but the next car will most likely be Japanese with Hybrid power.

Default That's nice.

Sounds like you have about 5 things that have gone bad by themselves (and I'm not counting the Cupholder as a 'problem'). 5 problems.

How many miles are on the car?

Default First off, scheduled Timing Belt change is 90K miles on all Audis

A flawed design and lack of support from AOA is why we all do it at 60K miles. Just one example of the many failures in the B5 Audis.

Its unfortunate that they made such a sweet looking car one of the most unreliable cars on the market.

Default Didn't you post this same thing yesterday?

Sorry to hear about the TB. Unfortunately, the dealers/AoA stick to the maintenance intervals (90-105K) which is FAR too long for the TB to go. Consensus here is do it at 60k miles. There have even been a couple cars where the TB has gone sooner.

For what it's worth, aside from 3 CP failures (known defect on the 2001+ MY), my car has been flawless - not a single issue. *knocks on wood*

Lemon laws, IIRC, apply when the same problem has been attempted to be fixed unsuccessfully three times. I don't think it applies to multiple separate issues. Check with your state, though.

Default ignorance isn't an excuse, RTFM and get your TB changed at its specified interval

it's 90k. you should have had it done before you even picked up the car, god knows what the previous owner did to it.

take a dose of common sense. when you move into a house that had a previous owner, don't you look around, see what needs to be done maintenance-wise, then have it done? or is that just me.

Default The belt WAS changed during my 90K service...it was the pulley that broke!

You don't have to be an accusatory assh*le. How could it be my fault. Anyway AoA basically put their stamp of approval on this POS because it was "inspected" and all major repairs were to be done prior to being Audi Assured. There's no sense in denying the obvious, the B5 platform is unreliable.

Default Re: Honda

I guess you'd suggest that I push my broken-*** 1998 Audi with 94K, than drive my fucntional backup 1991 Accord with 220K?
