Looked down at the odo at work and: Just over 100K miles. Runs like a champ, smooth even power, great idle, burns little oil. Bought it three years ago at 70K. Only problem: None really. Did grease the control arm ***** up front with syringe and ball joint grease two years ago. Since, no squeeks or clunks on original suspension (I checked the service records at dealer). All tires have perfect even wear without any rotation.

No complaints, knock on wood.

Correction: I did have one "real" unexpected problem. The tie rod outer end ball boot was ripped. The joint was still in perfect condition, so I only replaced the rubber boot.

Now now, I'm a cheap bugger who enjoys doing work on her. Simple observations, doing your own oil changes, and doing your own work, prevents mechanic inspired repairs down the road.

I'm a DIY person myself, which is good because I spend an inordinate amount of time doing so. . .

I'm just disgruntled and giving you a hard time. Congrats on the milestone. I just passed 90k. One of us (me or the car) isn't gonna make it to 100k.

this is around the milage that things started to break on my car...

right after the warranty ran out. p/steering pump and cat blew by 110 Kmi.

VW/Audi Baby!

Yeah, that's the VW/Audi experience we all go through. Actually, this one is hell of a lot better than my previous Jetta Carrat, which needed new shocks, ball joints, and a fuel pump at around 80K miles. Once these problems are dealt with at the car's midlife, wow, they go for another five or more years without any significant problems. Just my experience with three VWs. I'm not really worried, if you're a tinkler, these cars go forever without much expense. As long as the body looks good, what's another 3 or 4k thousand dollars over 12 years? If that much.
