Help with Delphi XM install -- does Rat Shack sell a DC/DC inline 12V-6V power converter...(M)

so I can hardwire the receiver to my fuse box without using the cig lighter (or creating my own "behind the scenes" cig lighter connection?

I attempted to look on their web site but to no avail.

honestly, the behind the scene thing works great...

I have that for the hardwire of the ipod... it is bolted up behind the driver knee bolster... it is perfect.

allows me to retain the correct voltage/wattage/etc from the charger without risking a crappy converter.

where did you get the receptor for the cig lighter input?

just making sure...all car electricity is DC power correct? so all I need would be a transformer

from 12V-6V (1amp).

Transformers only work with AC, so ... no

Could use solid state voltage regulators/convertor ICs like a LM317T or LM1084. They're reliable and cheap (the basic chip is only a couple bucks and available at Radio Shack), but need a little electronics knowledge to wire them up.

Someone probably makes a pre-assembled little module of them, but don't know how much $$$ they'd charge.

Errrr....

If you mean transformer in a generic sense as "something that changes one thing to another" maybe you could apply that name to a DC-DC converter.

If you mean the classic definition of a transformer, as in one of these things ...
