How long should a clutch last? 2000 A4 Avant 2.8
I was thinking about buying a used 2000 a4 avant 2.8 w/ 59,000 miles, but something he said really scared me. He said he had to have the clutch replaced at 50,000 miles. Lucky for him hi warranty covered it, but for me, I just can't understand how a clutch could go out so soon.
That's water under the bridge, but I just don't want to have to replace the clutch on this car every 50,000 miles. That's horrible craftsmanship don't you think? Did Audi just eff up their '00 manual A4s?
Anyone else have any insight to their clutch work?
I was hoping to buy an audi because I want *better* quality, not worse quality.
My '89 4Runner has 180k miles and as far as I know it's still on it's original clutch. Even if it's not, I bought it w/ 90k miles and so it's got at least 90k miles and the clutch is still beautiful. Shouldn't I expect that much and more from a "german engineered" audi?
Thanks for your thoughts and I'm sorry about the rant. My wife really likes the car and now I'm stuck because I have to be the bad guy and tell her it's not a wise choice.

define abuse it?? I am at 84K on my original clutch
my porsche went over 65K on its original clutch and it's throwout bearing went, not the disc I think.
I am going to move to a spec stage 1 or 2 sooner or later. I know my car with 270hp thanks to N2O will nuke my stock clutch in no time.

I am so not taking my car for any tranny problems to an audi dealership....
because I know that the car will come back worse than when I turned it in. If I ever do have any probs, I'll buy another tranny or have it done at a specialized shop. I do not trust american audi techs, mainly because I can do a better job on most of what they do, than they can. To them its just another car, to me its my pride and joy.

I haven't been to the dealer for service or repairs in years. Sometimes I get parts there, though, but only if I need 'em fast (and if they have them).
