Delurk and a Question About Wheels for 4KQ?
My name is Brandon Traynham and I just bought an '86 4000CS Quattro. It has a great body, paint, and interior, but needs a some mechanical work as the previous owner seems to have neglected some basic maintenance items. We got it for a great price so I plan to repair a lot of the items with some performance parts and have some fun with it.
Number one on my list is tires as they are all bald and one of the rear tires is a different size which I'm sure isn't good for the rear diff. As long as I'm doing tires I figured I might as well upgrade to larger wheels. Trouble is that I really want a wheel with lots of spokes (kind of like stock, but more aggressive). I went to several tire dealers in town and checked the Tire Rack and Discount on-line, but everyone says because of the 4x108 bolt pattern and the large lug bolts, I'm limited to a small selection of mostly 5 spoke wheels. I noticed that 'CanyonBlaster' has some nice looking wheels from Primax - what name or model number are they? Did you have to do any conversion to make them fit? Does anyone else have any suggestions?
Thanks for all the great info on this list! I'll probably be asking alot more questions as I start digging into the car. I already bought the Bentley manual and have proceeded to change a couple of door handles and a broken heater cable. After tires and wheels I'll probably switch springs and shocks (H&R and Boges?). Thanks again!

16x7.5 40mm offset
no scrubbing with 205/45-16...
but i would recommend a wider tire...
this combo works great but does nothing for rim protection..
H&R's and boges rock..
hope this helps!

I love the Boge Turbogas struts, there is no better value for the $$ IMHO. H&R springs are considered the best, but they no longer make them for my car, so the only choice for me is Eibach. No bad thing really, as it is the spring of choice for most every coil-over mfgr.
Good luck with your quatt,
Brandon
I was planning on H&R's and Boge's and I just called a few vendors for prices, but Total Audi Performance just told me that the Boge's only last about 18 months on average and steered me to the Bilsteins. Anybody have any thoughts on that?
Thanks again!
Brandon
