Hey fellow 4kq owners!
I just found out about this site. I've had an 86 4kq for about 5 years now, and unfortunately it's on it's last legs unless I spend quite a bit of money. The odometer quit at 149k but I estimate the mileage at about 185k or so.
One of the things I was curious about is the cost of replacing the clutch. For all I know this is the original clutch. It is VERY stiff and the slave cylinder groans feebly. It also needs the rear subframe bushings...you should have seen how bad the car was on snow last year! Anyway, good to see a 4k specific site out there besides the Audifans.com site.

Oh, and...
Mine has quite a few different things that need fixing, so any advice would be awesome.
Rear defroster lines broken (only 3 work)
Center diff lock iffy
Steering getting harder (yes, I replaced the fluid)
Hissing sound when in 1,3 and 5'th gears from shifter
Other stuff, will try to think of later!

shifter hiss
its a lot louder when you take the shifter boot off, it comes from the cool tunnel that he shifter linkage goes into. i made a little boot for it out of some thin scrap rubber, between that and having that console piece and the shifter boot all snug the noise pretty much disappears.

new clutch price quote
I took my 84 4000s quattro to my mechanic who always give me good prices and does alot of the work off the books. He told me that He has gotten rid of 4000's that need a clutch. I was told approx. $900. plus parts ( clutch kit: $150.)
