Default 4kq splash shield

My cardboard splash shield disintigrated 5 years ago. Every time I drive in rain/snow the alternator belt slips. I suppose I could get another used one, but isn't there something a little more sturdy I could use?

Mine finally died this past year after a 100mph blast down the highway. I plan on making a replacement out of aluminum. It's not a very complex piece. The oem cardboard piece of junk is like $65 or something silly.

Default I thought about that...

...but I am worried the aluminum might get bent in the snow and jam the alternator. Steel would bend and snap back, but would be harder to work with. I was hoping AOA had made an upgraded shield over the years, but I guess not.

I'm going to do much in line of what Dwight is saying.

I'm going to replace mine with UHMW type plastic. You can buy sheet of 24"x36" for about $18 and cut/mold to your need.

I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Default Snow?

I guess that could be a concern, but on the CGT we have plenty of ground clearance, and if the snow IS that deep, the old coupe ain't goin nowhere anyway!
I like the idea of plastic, although it may be brittle in cold weather. Any material will require some reinforcement in the form of bracing on the backside, I think.

UHMW is used for under body protection in rally cars. It's used to protect parts that won't have to absorb too much impact (like fuel pump, gas tank, etc.).

It won't brittle, as far as I know. If I'm not mistaken, the temperature range for this material is -40F to 180F.

All my cardboard crap is falling apart, so I'll give it a try and let you know.

However, The place where I live doesn't get much snow or too much cold.

I'll keep you all posted.

Default Doesn't have to be deep

A mere 3" will splash up into that alternator belt and cause slip. Rain is even worse. I have to pull over all the time to get the battery charged again...

2 years ago we got an 11" snow (deep for here) and of course I went for a drive. Did just fine on tight switchbacks, but that charge light kept coming on.
