Lost: Spark for a 4ks, Reward offered
Subject is an 87 4k 5spd 4cyl. Has new dizzy and hall sensor controller. Ran great for about a week after complete tuneup. Now it will not start at all.
Testing using the Bentley indicates a possible failed Hall Sensor controller but swapping in a known good unit is no help. Swapping in a known good Knock Sensor controller also has no effect. Wiring checks out. Testing at the coil taps 1/15 shows that during cranking there is exactly one discharge of the coil, after that the ground is constant.

I do not know the exact terminology, but the same thing happened to me in a BMW 320i once and it was what a BMW guru called a bad "impulse sender". The one on a 4KQ is under the glove box near the brain box. It is about 3" x 1.5" with 2 screws at either end and a plug with about 25 pins (don't quote me on that).
