front speaker removal

Is there a recommended way to remove and replace the front dash-mounted speakers in my '87 4KQ.

I did it!!

I replaced mine. What I did was carefully pry up on the base of the grill until the molded plastic broke at each corner. Then once the grill speaker unit was out I installed Infinity 4 inchers and they drop right in. I then carefully pried the grill off the old unit and put it ove the new speaker.

I am sure this is not the right way but mine looks factory stock. You have to be careful not to nick the dash or the grills.

I think you can take the dash out and drill them out that way but wht bother. They were installed with the dash out at Audi. Crazy **** huh.

It feels as if you are breaking the dash upon removal, you are not!!

If you pry out the two side vents which are located under each speaker you can unscrew them. To take the vents out you have to lift up on the lock tabs located in each corner of the vents ( when you look in the corners you will see the vents I'm talking about). Hope this helps you. Good luck!
