84 4kq spotted for sale in N. VA
Behind my house is a european car repair shop I go to. They also sell cars, and have this very nice 84 black 4kq. I sat in it (of course) and it's in so much better condition than my 86. Apparently it's a one owner too. I secretly like the looks of these better than the second generation models, so there is some drool factor on my part. If you want more info, I can ask him about the car.

I'm with you on preferring the looks of the first generation 4k to the later ones (85-87). It seems to happen pretty often that a nice original design gets slightly updated to make it more contemporaray, and this usually results in the muddying up of the original design concept. Ford did it with the explorer - I like the looks of my wife's '91 better than the looks of the '95 and newer.
But I definitely prefer the looks of my '86 4kq to the looks of the '88 and later 80's and 90's.

Ya, the 'soap bar' look never set right with me. Ironically, the most aerodynamic car ever put into production until about 4 years ago was the Subaru XT. It has NO curves whatsoever. I think Audi realized their mistake, and started to put angles back in, especially with the '90 CQ. First the 5k was round, then the Taurus followed (taking most of the credit of course). I wouldn't want anything more rounded than my 86 is.
