Default Rigging a 4KQ for sound.

I wouldn't mind hearing about (and perhaps seeing pictures) of what some of you have done with up-scale sound system installs in your '85-'87 4KQs. Things like amp placement, subs, replacing stock speakers, etc. I didn't get any response from the audio forum.

i put 3.5" pioneers in the front, 5 1/4" blaupunkts in the rear deck with a blaupunkt cd head unit and a rockford 10" punch dvc sub in a ported box run off a 400watt rockford amp(that i mounted right on the box) in the trunk. best car audio ive ever heard in my entire life. i have a new 4kq that im planning to put th 3.5s in the fron, 6" component rockfords in all the doors, tweeters on the roof, 6x9s in the rear deck and a new 500 watt rms rockford 10" sub in the trunk with the amps to match. id like to put another blaupunkt tuner in but i dont like their new styles. im also considering a 7" in dash screen for a dvd player.. the surround sound would be hot let me know if you have any wiring questions, ive been through it all with that car.

I put some 3.5 Infiniti's in the front.
some 4" in the rear and have a box with a 12" sub
sounds reasonable considering most compenents
were given or traded for work.
Kenwood Cd player 1995 model still works great.
even reads my CDR's if i burn @ 2x.
much better than the factory setup..
but for good quality bass in the 4kq you almost
need custom porting to the trunk.
the gas tank is behind the back seat. don't forget that.

I run my amp wire under the car next to the brake lines and come in thru the bottom of the trunk there's a plastic piece that you can drill a hole in and run the wire through.

HTH!

10" sony Xplode 600W (max) $80
300W (max) Pioneer amp $140
home made box 3/4" mdf (free)
monster wiring kit $30
Infinity interior speaker (too much, but I didn't pay for it)
Blaupunkt CD player (kinda crappy)

For the amount I actually paid, the system is very nice. A sub is a must in this car as 3.5" and 4" speakers put out NO bass. For the wiring, there are some rubber grommits which are just plugging up holes near the clutch. I ran all the wires under the driver side carpet. By unscrewing the metal stip that holds down the carpet, wire can be fed through pretty easily. Back seats come out in a cinch, and the stuff goes back into the trunk to my amp and sub. The amp is attached to the sub box, but for quite a while now the box has just been held in place by my spare tire sitting in the trunk. I broke the thing that holds the tire in place and even bought a new one, but that would mean lots of sliding around of my sub as I have yet to secure it.
