1987.5 CGT: Fault Code Scanner?
I just bought an 87.5 CGT. I also have a 1998 VW Passat and 2002 VW Jetta. Both of the newer cars can be hooked up to a VAG-COM scanning tool to check various functions of the car and to look for fault codes. Is there such a thing for a 1987.5 CGT? Is a dealer only thing, or is there a knock-off of the software that I can use on my PC or soemthing like that?

But I don't think the 87.5 uses a scanner tool. I'm not even sure it stores fault codes. If it does, it's probably a simple thing like counting the flashes of one of the idiot lights or something.

the fuse opening on the fuel relay, triggers the fault codes......
turn the ignation on, insert a fuse in it for four seconds, then count the flashes of the check engine light. there wil be a long pause between codes. this is all covered in the bently. if you have codes, email me and i'll help you out. I own a 87.5 CGT also.
