Off the wall question
I also have access to a 4kQ that has a really built 10VT motor. I don't know the HP, but I've seen it eat C5 Vette's easily. It does have a problem with the motor, something with the reciprocating assembly, neither the owner who's a friend of mine nor I have looked at it yet.
I also have a complete spare 016 with half-shafts, diff and a spare driveshaft.
Here's what I'm thinking. After seeing the previous post of the guy overseas building an S1 from his donor, why not try it myself?
I haven't looked much at the Coupe in terms of the floorpan, and what it would take to hang the 4k rear suspension on there. Shortening the chassis has it's obvious problems. I've already sourced the body panels.
What else am I going to have to hit my head on the wall for?
You could source all original S1 parts right down to using a 20V alloy motor and then finding or making various intakes and exhausts. Remaking kevlar/carbon parts. etc. etc.
The end result could either be skin deep or an S1 Rally car in every detail except for the RE chasis number.
Although it sits at the back of my head that I could transplant a lot of parts from the 90 to this project if I were so inclined. I've sourced all the body panels already.
I don't know the underside of the Coupe to know what I'd run into trying to marry a Q rear to the current underpinnings.
Last I saw, the empty shell was sitting in a barn. Who knows, maybe he'll want to sell it, and save you *some* work?
Or at least give you some pointers...?<ul><li><a href="http://www.quattro.ca/1982CQ/1982CQ.htm">Martin's 4000q-coupe page</a></li></ul>
This would give you the right doors and windscreen.
