Blown engine 85urq
I just found out my 85 URQ needs a new engine? Any suggestions as to the best way to get this done? New, rebuild, used? Any upgrades while the engine is out? Thanks for any consideration!!!! Ken

it's not that simple, his question is too vague.

What are his intentions. Seemingly his one and only post leads us to have no clue about how much knowledge he has about these cars.
20vT could be totally wrong for him.

Re: Well if the engine's coming out and he's asking about new or used...
...may as well go the full nine and replace it with a 20vt. Yeah it's more work than dropping in another WX, but if he wants upgrades 10 more valves and a smaller water cooled turbo may be the answer. If money's tight, may look to the MC as a better upgrade.

This is my second quattro. Had a Tornado Red 83, now a Blue 85. The engine has to come out, I can get a WX long block from 2Bennett. Don't want to do a 20v conversion. Whats the deal with the WC? Is it a better option than the WX, pro/con? Bruno, Quattro Center, NY has the car. has Would there be any other basic upgrades while the engine is out? Thanks Ken

Yea - they are only 30 miles from me. I've tried Greg Haymen (autofirme) and quattromotion (now quattrohaus). I have to try Bruno soon.
So what do they recommend for a replacement?
Is Bruno's shop still into the urq?

Define "basic".
Audi 4000 head? larger vavles
K24 turbo? quicker spool up
Lightened flywheel? faster revs
audi 200 10vT
MC II engine ( higher compression) Less off boost "dodgyness". As one person once put it.

Bruno gave me the bad news today! I still don't know how I ended up without any oil!!! Bruno and staff are very much into the URQ. There was an 83 in for repair when I got arrived. Brand new clean shop with a parts department. Bruno went directly into locating a WX. We're waiting for an answer from Shokan. With Bruno's help I may get lucky, they don't seem to like to sell their URQ parts. I didn't have a chance to discuss any alternatives. He seems to be a purist, prefers original with only chip upgrades. He only recommends Lehman's chip. I got the last one from MTM with his help. One just went off on Ebay for about $400.00 including the computer. I've been using Bruno since 1990. Do you know any other alternatives for aquiring engines, WX or WC. Ken

$400 for a WX
I've seen them go for $400 complete. I went to look at a nice one - to have lying around - but declined in the end because of several issues not related to the engine. The MC's are plentyful I believe and also about $500 and lots of guys went there and don't regret it.
