Aluminium block.

Hello everyone.
I have just bought my first Audi quattro. It?s a nice project with A2 fenders and other goodies.
Then i brought the car too my garage i took a closer look at all the parts included and found out that one of the engineblocks was made in Alu.
This really cought my attension then i didn?t think that Audi made any Alublocks for the Urquattro!?!
The earlyer owner told me that he got it from a former rally car built by Lehmann or something?

Can anyone of you guys give me any information about this block?

I've heard that some of the first production UR quattro's got the aluminum block, not just the rally cars....

It is worth $10k, unless you want to sell it. In that case, it is worth $500.

What I mean is, it _could_ be worth a lot, but chances are that it is not. There are a few versions of the aluminum block, and not all were created equally. Some were used in early ur quattros and even 1.9L taxi cabs.

In general, the block in ur quattros and even Sport quattros were not received well (James will jump in here). There were issues with leaking, warping and other maladies. Many were swapped out with cast iron blocks. Chances are the block you have has an issue with it, but it was too nice to throw away. Then again, maybe you have a Lehmann built S1 motor that just needs a freshing up to be worth a mint to someone....

Look on the driver's side just under the head.

There are a few aluminum block, 10V racing motors out there...

IIRC, the motor in the Sprongl's S2 rally car is an alluminum, Lehmann-built 10v unit.

It's an ex factory rallye motor.

Same as the one in Shokan's A2, as well as the one sitting on their shop floor, pulled out of some crazy Arab's burnt factory A2 (welding in the engine bay near fuel lines is a bad idea). I think the 10v blocks are the same as the Sport quattro group B cars as well.
