Default Nav+ install question?

Along with Nav+ I would like to install a DVD player instead of just a CD Changer. Does anyone know of a DVD Changer I can install in the glovebox that can play MP3 CDs [and also MP3 DVDs, (I have a DVD burner)]. That seems like a great way to have all my music easily accessible (easier than having ipod and an ugly wire running around).

And if this is possible, next question is does Nav+ display text, so the screen would actually show the names of the songs on the MP3 CD/DVDs ?

Thanks in advance !

Default Very Do-able......

Just get a portable DVD player that plays MP3's, which most do nowadays...just pick one.

You want to make sure it puts the track information and maybe the mp3 text info on the screen when hooked up to the video outputs.

Now, the Nav+ does have video/audio inputs, but I'm not sure if it's PAL/NTSC or what, but I think most DVD players can switch between the two. So, I have not confirmed this but in theory, this should all work.

Default The NAV+ TV Tuner has PAL video instead of NTSC... you'll need to find a converter.. OR

you can get a laptop with an S-Video out and just display PAL signal. You can watch either NTSC or PAL DVDs on your laptop (which will in theory just output it to PAL via the S-Video out). That way you can also write programs to play your MP3 info...

My best suggestion to you is to join the NavPlus Yahoo! group...

Default I'm a little lost on the technicalities...

I have a DVD +R, +RW burner...

I figured I could burn MP3's on the DVD RWs, then put that into a glovebox mounted DVD player and play the music through that. Or is that not possible, are there only MP3 CDs ?

Having the screen say what's playing isn't necessarily the most important thing. It'd be nice. I know my friends Pioneer setup shows the names of the songs he is playing on his MP3 CDs so I figured if I could make Nav+ do that, it'd be that much cooler.

Default simple answer, its doable, and an aftermarket solution is probably cheaper. (longer answer inside..)

The NAV+ unit will run you about $1,000 (Euro got stronger, US Dollar got weaker.. so prices went up a bit..)

If you buy the NAV+ unit alone, you will only be able to use the the radio.

To get the GPS stuff working you will need the GPS attenna and wiring (+ $200). Plus you'll need the NAV+ CDs (+$200).

To get the CD changer working, you will need the CD changer and glove box (+$400).

To get the video, you'll need the TV Tuner module... (+$200). The TV Tuner will also give you the ability to feed the into the NAV+ system a PAL S-Video signal and a sound signal.

This will only give you the ability to do something with a PAL signal. Its up to you how to want to approach what you see on the display. Just think of it as a computer display. What can you make your computer screen do?

Default I mean what about going with an aftermarket system ?

I want something that looks as close to stock as possible, thats why I chose Nav+ as the viable option.

I have a source for the CDs probably. And for the whole install. I need to call him. I met this guy at the last VW/Audi meet down here and he had the install complete with Nav+ playing DVDs. So I guess I should get in contact with him ASAP and see what can be done, and if he can help with the install and finding the necessary parts.
