Default Question..I've gone to college and had to leave the car at home...

I've left it to sit in the garage till October when I am bringing it back up to school. Any precautions, warnings, things I should do before I leave it in the garage for such a long time. I've asked my dad to start it up every weekend to keep the battery charged, but unfortunately im the only one in my family that knows how to drive a 5 speed, so noone will be driving..the gas wont get stale, battery would die, etc, right?? Any thing else I should know?

its September, so 4-6 weeks of storage isn't so bad. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Default Not sure how to do that, but is it worth it? Wouldnt it be fine to just have my dad start the car up

and let it run for a few minutes at idle??

Default Just make sure when you get back in to drive, you idle it for awhile.

After a few days, there will be no more oil coating the components, so you want to be real careful about lubing the engine prior to driving around again.

Other than that, you should be fine. It will also help that your dad is idling it every week.

Default Disagree, idling the engine never gets it hot enough to burn off moisture

I used to store my A4 and currently store my TTR during the winters.

I changed oil/filter before storage, top off gas tank with gas and add stabilizer, wash, wax, cover, hook battery maintainer, inflate tires to ~45psi. I then change oil again after I take it out of storage, but after I've driven it a bit.

I agree with the author of this Porsche doc that idling the engine probably never gets it hot enough to burn off moisture.

Porsche Club of America - Winter Storage

Default no...it'll probably drain more of the battery to let it run briefly

just disconnect the battery. To do that, find the battery (under the hood) and disconnect it.
