Default Help please....
so i recently installed a new amp and new subs (pics will be up soon, i promise) and as part of that, i had to drill new holes in my trunk for the sub box (prefab box, held in place with simple brackets) and since then, i've been noticing right after i fill up, my whole car kinda smells like gas. does this mean that i've punctured the gas tank? and if so, any thoughts as to how hard repair would be? thanks

Default Ouch! I take it you drilled in the floor? If you punctured the tank...
I would think you would lose vacuum on the tank similar to having the gas cap loose and the CEL should come on with that error message.

Default hmmm....
yeah i drilled into the floor, but i haven't gotten cel and the smell goes away once i get below like 7/8 tank....so i'm thinking it might just be like a really minor leak and not a real puncture

have you gotten a check engine light? You should have problems with evac if tank is punctured.

nope, no cel, just a funny smell when the tank is full

my friend did the same exact thing to his gti and it took a week for the cel to come on

Default oh ok...well in some ways thats comforting....
at least i think i know what the problem is now...now to see if i can somehow get it fixed....

out of curiousity, any idea of how your friend fixed his gti when the cel came on?

Default Back to VW? as in VW in germany or can a dealer do that?
i can live with kicking myself for blowing $400 on a stupid ****up but if i have to wait for my car to get sent out somewhere then i'll be a very unhappy camper =Tb

Default Just back to the dealer, you may have to wait for the dealer to get the tank though. And it is an
Audi, so they may up the price... who knows? Only way to find out is to take it to the dealer.
