Whooshing sound...?
Guys and Gals,
For the last week or so I hear a loud whooshing sound when I hit about 2000 RPM's. It lasts till about 2500 RPM's. This happens in every gear. I have a 2002 manual 1.8T. I don't ever remember hearing this sound before. It is considerably loud. Have you guys heard of any problems like this before? Is it even a problem? I have not been following the board for the last 2 months due to travel, but I am worried. Any ideas? Suggestions?

Any modifications worth mentioning?
Engine software? Turbo upgrades? Bypass/Diverter valve upgrades?
Your problem is obviously somewhere in the intake tract
Could be turbo, bpv, hose, maf sensor, wastegate, etc etc
2000-2500rpm is where the turbo is spooling up and starting to make the most helpful boost I think.

It's probably the vaccum hose that goes from brake booster to the intake manifold (in between the left front strut tower and the intake manifold). It also happened on my B6. Look at the elbow on the hose.

I have similar symptoms....(read)
I replaced my DV (which was torn), but the whoosh remains. Just did a search and found the answer to my problem. Check the link on my post. I have a tear on the inside of the elbow described.
