I'd wager that the kid wasn't really that much of an ***, and they for whatever reason decided to make him look that way via the way they edited the footage. Overall it was a highly disappointing show, as the hosts really didn't know a whole lot about the car and spent way too much time bashing the kid. Their empirical measurements are worthless - 5.8s 0-60 time stock? - and they didn't bother to do any before/after comparisons. I could go on but you get the point.

It seemed something happened off camera that "empowered" the hosts to really go off on the guy.
It was like they got snaked on something else (the dad?) and were dumping where they could. Maybe they knew something else about the kid (wrecked cars, previous violations, whatever) they couldn't otherwise discuss on the show.
