i put an evo intake on my car, and i am hearing that the evo intke actually gives you less HP, how could that be ?

Default well think about what an intake is for...

with an aftermarket intake, in order to see a performance gain, you need to satify at least the following conditions:

1) the intake allows for increased airflow compared to the stock intake
2) the intake allows for cooler air to be brought in compared to stock

the EVO intake fails #2 miserably because of the location of the cone filter and the lack of heat shielding

Default A open filter can allow more hot air in if you dont block off the rest of the engine bay and

dont feed cold air directly to the cone filter area. A real CAI will have the filter at a point were direct air flow is at or have a tube that supplies the filter with fresh air.

Default Same applies to all these statements...

...since certain A4 2.8 owners with intakes have been called to task, to provide dynos of their performance increases by those who think cold air intakes do no good on our A4's, I would also say that I wouldn't necessarily believe the statements that say they do not do any good unless dyno runs are provided to prove those statements.

A4 2.8 w/ intake feels more capable. European Car has proven that GTI VR6 w/ intake has a few more horsepower. I don't know what type of car you have. I don't know how it applies to 1.8T's.

I'm just saying I wouldn't trust many of the statements about intakes out there unless there is evidentiary proof backing it up.

Default

why do aftermarket cone filters sometimes cause a reduction in low end torque?

Default Ahh my 2.8 friend...

Our glowing hot turbos are almost right next to our intakes. Our "heat" shields don't do squat.

Default Simple experiment. Turn on oven. Set to 200 degrees. Stick head inside and breath deeply.

That should answer your question.

Default Now, now, let's keep it real. Try running down the street with the stock intake.

You won't have any breathing problems. But, to keep it fair, feel free to breath through the cone with your head in the oven.

You still lose.
