Several symptoms..any ideas on the causes???
Symptom #1 After starting the engine, If I apply slight pressure to the gas when idling, I hear a slight clunk/rattle sound coming from the front drivers side engine bay. This goes away after the car warms up/is driven.
Sympton #2 Loud popping noise comes from engine bay when reving up to 3500-4000 rpm in neutral. Not sure if this occurs when driving.
Sympton #3 When in reverse at low speed (1-4mph) and for the first 2-5 feet, hear a noticble rattle/vibration from the front drivers side wheel area.
Vehicle is 2000 2.8, with 80,000 miles driven all by me.

as far as symptom #1/#3 is concerned, i am experiencing something similar. for me it only occurs after starting the car and engaging the transmission (6pd) for the first time. it does not occur after this and is regardless if the car is warm or not (i.e. this can be repeated as many times as you want as long as the car is turned off and then back on again before seeing a duplication of the symptoms). i have not tired to rev the engine at all while in neutral but i will give that a try and let you know about the results. since my car is less than 1 month old i am taking it into the dealer on monday and will let you know what the outcome is.
for #2, i have also noticed something similar to this but it sounds more like a click than a pop. it has been very inconsistent so i have not been able to locate it. i believe that i have heard this also while driving but i could be wrong. does it always occur when reving to these number in neutral? only the first time? inconsistent? again, i'll give it a try just reving while in neutral and let you know what i notice.
any information that you might come across that might be helpful to mention to the dealer would be greatly appreciated.

i hear 1 and 3 on occasion as well
never really concerned me to point where i would have it looked at. but its pretty spiratic when it does happen, usually early in the morning when the engine is not fully warmed...

just went outside and tested the conditions that you described...
didn't get the same results as you though. i am however feeling (in the gas pedal... i think)/hearing the same noticable sound when first engaging the transmission after starting the engine. jesus i hope this is nothing major.

Wow... haha...now that I think about it... I have #1 and #2.
sometimes when I start up...put it in drive... and give a touch of gas to get going I hear this little 'clunk' coming from the engine bay/or somewhere in front/under me. Like a little lever engaging...Even my girlfriend noticed it and asked me if that was normal... It didn't sound like anything bad at all... just thought it was the car warming up...
For #2... sometimes when I'm driving... I mostly notice it when I'm accelerating... I do hear this really small "crack" coming from my front passenger side door area...kind of like the indside door moldings feeling increased air pressure or something and "adjusting" itself. The sound is more like a very small pebble bouncing off the windshield while driving. Definitely a cracking sound and not a popping sound.
Mind you this is happening in a 2005 1.8T that i just picked up at the end of Aug.
These are really small things and nothing for me to be concerned about... but I'd be curious what you find out.
