rear wheel vs front wheel
As much as I harp on its handling trade-offs in less than ideal traction conditions FWD has an advantage as understeer is easier to rein in than oversteer when you go over the edge.
Quatto with its abailty apportion torque front to rear and side to side all at once gives up a litte to RWD in the understeer dept. However, you cannot argue with its success on the track. It was so good it was banned in touring car.
But there's probably enough buffer in there that a chip won't exceed.
You could also always increase the size of the performance envelope (raise the total adhesion limit) with a tire upgrade.
RWD, easier for an average driver to skid, but if you know how to drive it you can control it better.
Big disadvantage with FWD is torque steer.
but it's better e.g in snow than RWD is
Essentially, for the great mass of drivers FWD understeer make their cars a bit safer.
Sadly, true drivers are the minority so FWD is the norm.
